The acceptable use policy defines the type materials and actions that customers are prohibited from being party to. If this policy is violated, you are within your rights to shut down a customer, provided that adherence to the AUP was an agreed upon condition of doing business together. The AIT policy covers such things as the type material that can be hosted or transmitted by customers, the proper use of network and machine resources, and violating company security. For most customers, that means no spam, no adult materials, and do not exceed allotted disk space. Violators run the risk of having their sites shut down. Your policy should also spell out the consequences of noncompliance.

It is a good idea to list a contact person on the policy, preferably an attorney, to handle any questions or complaints that arise. There will always be customers who'll try an end run on your acceptable use policy just like kids will test the patience of their parents. Make the policy be brief, self-explanatory, then enforce it when violations occur.
